Tuners - Pioneer TX-9800
One of the best tuners ever made, the Pioneer TX-9800 is another 5-ganger with a unique auto-tuning feature that allowed it to fine-tune itself after you let go of the knob. The blue meters were a precursor to the Fluroscan to come.
How did it sound? Very nice. Similar to the Sansui 9900. Wish I could do a side-by-side for a more formal evaluation, but if your question is: "Does tuner quality matter?" my answer is yes - it CAN make a difference.
If you have any info, photos, video links, or stories about the Pioneer TX-9800, please leave a comment or email me.

I just bought a Pioneer TX-9800 for $110 today... Good Deal?
ReplyDelete"I just bought a Pioneer TX-9800 for $110 today... Good Deal?" If it is in good working and physical condition, then you got it for a very good deal, yes. The average blue book on the 9800 is at $170. Thanks for writing in!
ReplyDeletei have an oldd rack system that has been in my attic for several years. was working great when i put it up and I put it up in the original styrofoam and plastic in the original boxes. It is a TX 9800 tuner, SG 9800 EQ, CS 922 speakers, Spec 4 amp, spec 1 pre amp,CF 1000 cass deck, Technics SLD 3 turntable and the rack. I want to sell it but have no idea what it is worth and want to get a fair deal. The turntable and cassette needed belts but everything else worked. Used to bring down the house when i had it hooked up to mt Bose 901-IV's. look forard to hearing back.
