Monster Receivers - Sansui 9090DB

This Sansui is rated at 125 watts per channel, and is another highly-sought after monster receiver. This unfortunate specimen had some cleaning fluid stains on the inside of the dial glass. A little TLC and it looked much better. I wasn't blown away by the sound from this unit. Perhaps the caps were drying up, but it didn't have the punch of a Marantz. Judging sound on these old units is far from perfect. So many ways these classics can go 'out of spec' with age. I'm sure in its day, or with some serious rehab, this would sing like it's supposed to.

  1. Hi, I'm from Chile. I'm a proud owner of one of this puppies. Sansui 9090DB.
I would like to share with you some pics and videos.
It´s a must to say that the sound my unit produces (thanks to an annual preventive technical maintenance I give to it) is amazing….every listeners that visit me at home (friends of mine of course) says "wow". (so do the neighbors…!)
    Greetings from Chile.
    Patricio.

  2. Had one and was not impressed at all, had a 8080 not good either, then went with a Ba2000 amp preamp combo, still not impressed. Got rid of it all and that ended my Sansui stage.
